The Best of Both Worlds
Did you know you can enroll in a Medicare plan and keep working?
If you are still working, are eligible for Medicare, and you are still on your Company Group plan, you may want to take a closer look at what your Medicare Rights qualify you for! What do I mean by “Medicare Rights”? That is a great question. If you have worked for more than 40 quarters (10 years) and paid taxes in the United States, you have essentially been paying into Medicare for many years.
At age 65, most people become eligible for Medicare benefits. Medicare is health insurance for people over the age of 65 and for those under 65 with certain qualifying conditions.
It is highly subsidized by the Federal Government. Compared to most private health plans, Medicare is very comprehensive in coverage and generally lower in cost. Because they are not aware of how Medicare works, many people who continue to work past 65 simply assume they must stay on the Company group plan and delay Medicare until they retire.
This is perfectly within their right, but they may also be overpaying needlessly. So, if you qualify and have not looked at the coverage you are entitled to, take a look so you can compare your current coverage against your Medicare Rights! After all, you have been paying for it! You will be glad you did!
